Washington National Guard Soldiers with "Cutthroat" Troop, 1st Squadron, 303rd Cavalry Regiment, 96th Troop Command, conduct night-time reconnaissance lanes using PVS-14 night vision monoculars on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., Feb. 4, 2023. Also known as ‘scouting’, reconnaissance teams take maximum advantage of concealed terrain, maneuvering through the night to conduct surveillance and avoid detection. “Cutthroat” troopers are preparing for their exportable combat training capability exercise (XCTC), the National Guard's program of record that enables units to achieve the platoon readiness necessary to deploy, fight, and win battles throughout the world.
