Spain's Crown Prince Felipe de Borbon walks to view a live demonstration of Engineer capability during his visit to the San Gregorio training area to meet with the international participants of INTERDICT 12, Oct. 30. Col. Scott Peterson (left), commander 18th Engineer Brigade, and a native of Marinette, Wis., and Lt. Col. Tom Austin (right), commander 54th Engineer Battalion, and a native of Shelby, Mich., engineer soldiers were part of the demonstration to show the Prince the U.S. and Spanish Engineer capabilities. The exercise, hosted by the Spanish engineers, is to foster and enhance the interoperability among engineer units towards counter improvised explosive device operations. The intent is to focus on the roles that military engineers can perform to defeat the enemy's IED system using a scenario as similar to Afghanistan as possible.
