Leonora and Annie Burger, descendants of Minnesota-native and Supreme Court Justice Warren Burger donate a Medal of Honor to the Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum during a small ceremony at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C., March 28, 2023. Warren was the grandson of Joseph Burger, an Austrian-born Union Soldier who enlisted at age 13 and later received the Medal of Honor at just 15 years old.

“History belongs where people can see it,” said Annie.

Joseph Burger's Medal of Honor will be prominently displayed in the new Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum scheduled to open in 2025. It is the Museum Collection's first Medal of Honor for service in the Civil War.
