    7th Fleet Visits Nimitz

230325-N-MH015-1040 PHILIPPINE SEA (March 25, 2023) Vice Adm. SAITO Akira, Commander in Chief, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF); U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Karl Thomas, commander, U.S. 7th Fleet; and Rear Adm. Christopher Sweeney, commander, Carrier Strike Group 11, meet aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). The visit coincides with a bilateral maritime exercise between units from Nimitz Carrier Strike Group and the JMSDF, including anti-submarine drills, air defense exercises, helicopter cross deck landings, and integrated maritime fires training. Nimitz is in U.S. 7th Fleet conducting routine operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
