U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Nicholas Pfautz, assigned to Tactical Law Enforcement Team Pacific, gives a backbrief to the Kenyan Coast Guard on multi-level deconfliction at Port Louis, Mauritius, March 14, 2023, as part of Cutlass Express 2023. Using the ship-in-a-box model, coast guard members from Seychelles, Mauritius, Comoros, and Kenya conducted training on tactical casualty care, close quarters combat, clearing a vessel and multi-level deconfliction. Cutlass Express 2023, conducted by U.S. Naval Forces Africa and sponsored by U.S. Africa Command is designed to assess and improve combined maritime law enforcement techniques, promote safety and security in the Western Indian Ocean, and increase interoperability between participating nations. U.S. Sixth Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
