NORFOLK, NNS (Mar. 22, 2023) Military Sealift Command’s contracted vessel MV Gary Chouest was recently awarded a letter of appreciation for quickly responding to an emergent U.S. Navy tasking to tow, in rough waters, roll-on/roll-off vehicle cargo ship USNS Gordon (T-AKR-296) to safety, Dec. 14, 2022. MSC Atlantic Commodore Capt. Daniel E. Broadhurst presented the letter on March 22 to the ship’s Master Capt. Adam Zaborny, MSC’s Towing and Salvage Project Officer Jon Timothy (Time) Schauwecker, and the crew in Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Fort Story, Va.
This letter of appreciation was befitting as this mission was a first of its kind for Gary Chouest, said Ronald W. Brinkley, MSC Atlantic’s future operations and plans’ officer. “Typically, MSC ships do not practice the art of towing and being towed. Despite that fact, this towing evolution was a true success story because of the well-thought-out planning and the superlative ship handling by Gary’s crew. All of which was achieved, primarily, as a result of the expert training, seasoned experience, and superb seamanship skills of the personnel on the scene.”
MV Gary Chouest is one of U.S. flagged Jones Act offshore supply super vessels and is chartered by MSC.
