U.S. Marine Corps Corporal John Darby, a flight equipment technician attending Marine Security Guard School at Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, receives the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from Lt. Col. Matthey McNerney, the executive officer of Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, for heroic acts performed while off-duty during an awards ceremony on Quantico, Virginia, April 6, 2023. Darby and two other Marines received the award after intervening during an altercation between civilians involving a knife.
