The 81st Araw ng Kagitingan, or Day of Valor is held at Mt. Samat in Bataan, Philippines, April 10, 2023. The Day of Valor is a national observance in the Philippines which commemorates the fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during World War II. U.S. service members participating in the Balikatan 23 exercise attended the event to stand together in honoring the fallen. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades of shared experiences.
