Members from the Veterans Federation of the Philippines attend the wreathing ceremony that took place during the 81st Araw ng Kagitingan, or Day of Valor at Mt. Samat in Bataan, Philippines, April 10, 2023. The Day of Valor is a national observance in the Philippines which commemorates the fall of Bataan during World War II. U.S. service members participating in Balikatan 23 attended the event to stand together in honoring the fallen. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades of shared experiences.
