Maj. Gen. Jonathan M. Stubbs, the adjutant general of the Arkansas National Guard, met with Brig. Gen. Juan Carlos Ponce Valdez, Air Chief Guatemala Air Force, at the historic terminal of the La Aurora airport which is home to the Guatemalan Air Force.
Brig. Gen. Ponce expressed his sincere appreciation for the support of the Arkansas National Guard. The 189th Air Wing, 188th Air Wing, and the 77th Theater Aviation Brigade have provided assessments, and best practices on maintenance, unmanned aircraft systems squadron development, and imagery analysis.
A partnership which resulted in the actualization of the maintenance manual, improvements in flight safety, and the preparation for new capabilities such as night vision for search and rescue and the use of the helicopter rescue hoist.
Guatemala Air Force continues to expand their capabilities and professionalization as demonstrated by their recent purchase of two Bell 412 EPX helicopters.
