The U.S. Military Academy’s Equal Opportunity Office hosted the Days of Remembrance/Holocaust Remembrance Observance April 13 at the West Point Club. The event’s guest speaker was Matthew Rozell, a retired high school History teacher from Hudson Falls, N.Y., who authored the book, “A Train Near Magdeburg” and the book series “The Things Our Fathers Saw” during which he interviewed many Holocaust survivors. Through his books, he has reunited 275 survivors of a death train with the liberating American Soldiers. The Jewish prisoners, mostly women and children, were liberated when they were enroute to concentration camps and Allied Soldiers intercepted it and set them all free.
