South China Sea (Feb. 3, 2023) – U.S. Marines assigned to Battalion Landing Team 2/4, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct rocket battle drills aboard amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), Feb. 3. A force in readiness, BLT 2/4 sharpens their understanding of a multitude of weapon systems in order to rapidly respond to crises in all domain environments through naval power projection. The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit is embarked on the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and the amphibious transport dock ships USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) and USS Anchorage (LPD 23), and operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
