    Exercise Balikatan

U.S. Army Pfc. Alex Quiyo, an interior electrician with 523rd Engineer Company, 84th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, grinds a metal rail at an Engineer Civic Assistance Program site as a part of Balikatan 23 in the Province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines, April 21, 2023. Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military engineers and builders, construct a medical and multipurpose use infrastructure for the barangay local’s health and welfare, while also creating a long-lasting impact of partnership for the community. Balikatan, Tagalog for “shoulder-to-shoulder,” is an annual bilateral exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military. The exercise provides unique opportunities for participating forces to increase interoperability and provide tangible benefits for the people of the Philippines. Humanitarian civic assistance projects support local communities in the Philippines and strengthen our partnership. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Sarah Pysher)
