Rich Neely, the Adjutant General of Illinois, and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, to Cerro Gordo Village President Pro-Tem Jeff Power, and the Village of Cerro Gordo Board of Trustees, during a presentation April 17. April 17 marks the 176th anniversary of the Battle of Cerro Gordo, Mexico, during the Mexican American War. The village was renamed Cerro Gordo in 1855 by veterans of the battle who served in the Illinois National Guard.
