Command Sgt. Maj. (ret.) Mark Bowman talks about the history of the 33rd Division during World War II, during the Liberation of Baguio commemoration event at the Urbana Armory April 26. The Illinois 300th birthday event, which served as a kickoff event for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month which begins May 1, featured presentations from Bowman, the Philippine Student Association at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Illinois Army National Guard Maj. Matt Larson, 6th Battalion, 54th Security Forces Assistance Brigade, who recently completed a year-long deployment to the Philippines.
