USCGC Eagle conducts man-overboard drill while underway

USCGC Eagle (WIX 327) crew members working aloft in Eagle’s mizzen mast maintain visual contact with “Oscar,” a floating, buoyant marker used to simulate a person in distress, in order to point the bridge onto the correct bearing during a man-overboard drill, April 29, 2023, while underway in the Atlantic Ocean. Eagle conducted a four-month summer deployment, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, to teach practical seamanship skills to officer candidates from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps, foreign military personnel, and shared best practices with sailing organization Tall Ships America, while cadets and crew facilitated diplomatic engagements with U.S. allies in Northern Europe, the Portuguese archipelagoes of the Azores and Madeira, and Bermuda.
