USCGC crew members receive climbing aloft training

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Cristobal Lopez, a machinery technician assigned to Afloat Training Organization Portsmouth, smiles for a photo after completing up-and-over training in the crow’s nest of USCGC Eagle’s (WIX 327) main mast, May 2, 2023, while underway in the English Channel. Eagle conducted a four-month summer deployment, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, to teach practical seamanship skills to officer candidates from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps, foreign military personnel, and shared best practices with sailing organization Tall Ships America, while cadets and crew facilitated diplomatic engagements with U.S. allies in Northern Europe, the Portuguese archipelagoes of the Azores and Madeira, and Bermuda.
