U.S. Marines with the maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, fast rope off a UH-1Y Venom helicopter and set up security during visit, board, search, and seizure tactics training at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 3, 2023. The VBSS training was conducted to teach Battalion Landing Team 2/1 Marines insertion methods and close quarter tactics for boarding and securing maritime vessels. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
