U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Kyle Thompson, the crisis response force mission commander for Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, reviews the mission strategy during an embassy reinforcement rehearsal of concept walkthrough at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 5, 2023. The ROC walk reviewed the roles and responsibilities for each capability and how they come together to provide: security, air support, naval integration, civil affairs, and defense media coverage in response to a notional crisis. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
