U.S. Marines with III Marine Expeditionary Force Support Battalion, III MEF Information Group, conduct a shotgun live-fire exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, May 9, 2023. The M1014 Joint Service Shotgun is an Italian-made, semi-automatic, gas operated 12-gauge shotgun using the similar automatic regulating gas operating technology as the M16 service rifle. The Marines conducted the live-fire exercise in order to demonstrate proper shooting and weapons handling techniques. III MIG functions as the vanguard of III MEF, operating in the Indo-Pacific regions information environment, and supports Marine Air Ground Task Force operations with communications, intelligence, and supporting arms liaison capabilities.
