Cadets and crewmembers aboard USCGC Eagle (WIX 327) render honors to the Oscarsborg Fortress, May 19, 2023, during the transit into Oslo, Norway. The Oscarsborg Fortress contributed to Norway’s survival by sinking a German cruiser with two torpedoes during WWII, the unlikely victory of the newly inducted Norwegian troops, and gave King Haakon VII enough time to escape with Norway’s gold and valuables, which prevented Norway from being completely taken and controlled throughout the war.
