On May 3, 2023, HM3 Tyler Klare, a corpsman who works in Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune's Multi-Service Ward, received a surprise visit from NMCCL leaders. Commander and Director, Captain Kevin Brown, presented a spot NAM (Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal) to HM3 Klare for his attentiveness during an interaction with a patient which saved their life.
HM3 Klare recognized an abnormality in the patient’s cardiac rhythm and immediately notified the charge nurse. HM3 Klare said he was able to recognize the abnormality because he had requested to attend additional training for telemetry, giving him a better understanding of the medical device that monitors heart health. Due to HM3 Klare’s quick actions and ability to recognize the patient’s heart abnormality, the patient was able to transferred to a higher level of care.
