Fire Controlman 1st Class Petty Officer Juan ValdezAmarillas holds up a cloth mask that was supplied for the use of recruits during the COVID-19 pandemic, during the Recruit Training Command (RTC) Millennial Master Chief Time Capsule Opening Ceremony. The time capsule was sealed by the master chief petty officers who were on board RTC on January 1, 2000. It was to be opened by the first millennial recruit selected for master chief petty officer. The capsule, with the mask and other objects inside, will be reopened in 20 years. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp.
