On April 22, 2023, the Texas National Guard Joint Counterdrug Task Force Drug Demand Reduction Outreach program supported the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s 24th bi-annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day across the state of Texas in order to provide citizens with a safe alternative for expired or unused over-the-counter and prescription medication disposal. In Texas, JCDTF DDRO supported drop-off sites in Houston, Corpus Christi and Pharr, Texas, and assisted with the collection of 52,419 pounds of surrendered medication. Nationally, the DEA reports that 4,497 law enforcement agencies manned 4,955 collection sites and collected 663,725 lbs (332 tons) of medication. This brings the current all-time collection number to 17,300,454 lbs (8,650 tons) in the past 12 years. (Texas National Guard Joint Counterdrug Task Force Courtesy Photo)
