Col. Ted A. Detwiler, 97th Operations Group commander, hands Peggy S. Harris, a World War II widow, an American flag during a Vernon High School assembly held to honor U.S. military veterans, Nov. 12, 2012. Peggy’s husband, 1st Lt. Billie D. Harris, was flying a mission over Nazi-occupied France when his plane was shot down and crashed into the woods near a small town in Normandy. He never returned home. Peggy was on a 60-year journey to find answers to her husband’s whereabouts. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Klynne Pearl Serrano / Released)
