FORT LIBERTY, N.C -- U.S Army Lt. Gen. Chris Donahue, XVIII Airborne Corps Commanding General, shakes the hand of a gold star mother right before the Sunset Liberty March (SLM) on Jan 1, 2023. The SLM is a 0.6 - mile hike to honor veterans past and present and to pay respect for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Liberty has been the constant drumbeat for our military from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, World War 1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam, and the war on terror. As the home to the Airborne and Special Operations Forces, the Soldiers who serve here are the vanguard that brings liberty to those who are oppressed. Anyone can walk in the SLM that starts at sunset near the intersection of Honeycutt Road and Liberty Trail (formerly Bragg Blvd.) at sunset 365 days a year and ends near the intersection of Butner Rd. and Miller Street (formerly Randolph St.) at the monument where the liberty Marcher salutes the flag. To become a Liberty Marker or VoD go to the website, https://sunsetlibertymarch.com, pick a day significant to you or your organization and complete the online registration. (U.S Army photo by Sgt.
