Sailors aboard USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) simulate combating a fire during a damage control training evolution, June, 1, 2023 in the Pacific Ocean. Damage control training drills are used both in port and underway to ensure that Sailors have the proper training to combat any casualty that may arise. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and John P.
