A soldier from the Qatar Emiri Land Force provides a briefing to Qatar Chief of Staff/Chief of Defense Lt. Gen. Salim Hamad Aqil Al Nabit, center, prior to the start of a combined arms life fire exercise June 1, 2023 at Al Qalayel Training Area, Qatar. Al Nabit is flanked by Qatar Emiri Land Force Commander Maj. Gen. Saeed Hussain Al Khayarin and U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Heasley, 28th Infantry Division assistant division commander – support. The headquarters battalion of the 28 ID is currently serving as the headquarters element of Task Force Spartan, a unique multi-component organization comprised of active Army, National Guard and Army Reserve units. Through Operation Spartan Shield (OSS), Task Force Spartan maintains a U.S. military posture in Southwest Asia sufficient to strengthen defense relationships and build partner capacity.
