    1st Infantry Division

Past and present 1st Infantry Division Soldiers along with Arikara Tribe members assist former U.S. Army veteran Master Sgt. Charles N. Shay, a combat medic assigned to the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Inf. Div., in his entrance to a memorial named in his honor at Saint-Laurent-Sur-Mer, France, June 5, 2023. Big Red One noncommissioned officers, veterans, Arikara Tribe members and civilians gathered at the memorial to commemorate Shay and the 79th anniversary of D-Day. Hand-selected Big Red One noncommissioned officers represented the Division throughout D-Day commemorations as part of the Big Red One Year of the NCO campaign. The campaign further develops our NCO Corps and recognizes their contributions, both personal and professional, to the 1st Infantry Division. (U.S. Army photo by Pfc. Daniela Lechuga)
