Maj. Gen. David Hodne, commanding general of the 4th Infantry Division, is presented with a wreath to the placed on the Utah Beach Memorial June 6, 2023, at Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, France, honoring the thousands of American soldiers who landed and fought at Utah Beach on D-Day.
Code-named Operation ‘Overlord’, the 4th Inf. Div. was one of the first units to land on Utah beach with over 23,000 men. After periods of intense fighting, and immense bloodshed, the 4th Inf. Div. had advanced approximately four miles at a cost of about 200 killed, wounded, or missing. The 4th Infantry Division’s participation in the 79th D-Day commemoration showcases the legacy of Ivy Soldiers who represent the Ivy “READY” mindset and remains a critical reminder of the steadfast and loyal relationship between the U.S. and our European Allies and partners.
