230606-N-WF272-1284 PRINCETON, N.J. (June 6, 2023) The crewmembers of Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59), view the site where the 300-year old Mercer Oak stood while touring the Princeton Battlefield State Park during a namesake visit June 6, 2023. Named after Brig. Gen. Hugh Mercer who was wounded during the Battle of Princeton, the oak served as the emblem and appeared on the seal of Princeton Township. Twenty USS Princeton crewmembers visited the city to engage with Princeton-area residents, community leaders, local NROTC units and schools in order to further build relations between the ship and its namesake city.
