230608-N-IL330-2016 SAN DIEGO (June 08, 2023) – U.S. Marine Corps Col. Samuel L. Meyer, commanding officer of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, observes as amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) returns to Naval Base San Diego following a seven-month deployment to the Indo-Pacific region, June 8, 2023. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and John P. Murtha, with the embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, participated in multiple training exercises with international partners while deployed in support of regional stability and a free and open Indo-Pacific.
