U.S. Army Spc. Joshua D. Myers assigned to 1113th Transportation Company, 224th Sustainment Brigade, California National Guard, provides first aid on a training dummy by using a nasopharyngeal airway as part of the Combat Lifesaver Course in a simulation chamber, on Camp Buehring, June 8, 2023. The chamber, with realistic sound effects, smoke, and darkness, recreates the stress of medical care during nighttime combat. An NPA is used to help maintain an airway in an unconscious casualty and is part of the basic skills needed to become a certified combat lifesaver.
