JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (June 12, 2023) – U.S. Army Sgt. Carols Torres, of Jacksonville, N.C., the Veterinary Services Department non-commissioned officer-in-charge assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, re-enlisted at the U.S. Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Museum. Administering the oath was Army Lt. Col. Todd Collins, director of Veterinary Sciences. Torres, a graduate of Southwest High School in Jacksonville, was awarded a certificate of appreciation presented by NAMRU San Antonio Executive Officer Capt. Ewell Hollis. “I enjoy what I do,” said Torres, whose father served in the U.S. Marine Corps. “The Army has blessed me in so many ways and has provided direction in my life.” NAMRU San Antonio’s mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. It is one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy under the DoD and is one of eight subordinate research commands in the global network of laboratories operating under Naval Medical Research Command in Silver Spring, Md.
