U.S. Air Force pilot Kenneth Skeens (shown here in his flight gear) flew in the famous Berlin Airlift in 1949 from Wunstorf Air Base, Germany, where his grandson, Maj. Matthew Skeens, a logistics readiness officer with the 123rd Contingency Response Element from Louisville, Kentucky, is currently assigned in support of Air Defender 23. Exercise Air Defender integrates both U.S and allied air-power to defend shared values, while leveraging and strengthening vital partnerships to deter aggression around the world.
