The Little Free Library at 316 Doniphan Drive in Infantry Barracks was designed based on the neighborhood’s architecture and was decorated with children’s handprints whose parents were in the 2016 class of the Command and General Staff Officer Course. According to LittleFreeLibrary.org, the little libraries help support literacy by improving book access and mitigating what is refered to as summer slide, when children’s reading skills can decline. The organization also sites “demonstrating a reading lifestyle, forging partnerships with parents and establishing new avenues of community service” as benefits of the book-sharing program.
