Mr. Mark Abueg, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Outreach and Communications director, presents the family of U.S. Army Air Forces John M. Carroll with an collage during his funeral at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C., June 13, 2023. Carroll was assigned to the 328th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 93rd Bombardment Group (Heavy), 9th Air Force in 1943 when the B-24 Liberator bomber on which Carroll was the radio operator was hit by enemy anti-aircraft fire and crashed during Operation TIDAL WAVE. Carroll was accounted for by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency on Aug. 23, 2022, and returned to his family for burial with full military honors. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Ashleigh Maxwell)
