Army Sgt. Rachel Smith (right), multichannel systems operator, and Army Pfc. Lamar Haynes, information technology specialist, use Haynes’ phone to speak with satellite controllers at on offsite location to conduct a “peak and pol.” This process involves aligning the AN/TSC-167H satellite transportable terminal with an orbiting satellite for the most efficient signal. Smith and Haynes are assigned to the 146th Expeditionary Signal Battalion (ESB), which provides tactical communications assets that can support overseas missions, as well as humanitarian relief operations stateside with voice and data service to civilian agencies or military units. The 146th ESB is a Florida Army National Guard unit based in Jacksonville, Florida. (U.S. Army Guard photo by Sgt. 1st Class Shane Klestinski.)
