The ceremony was held in the McAlexander Fieldhouse, originally an armory, which was later named after Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Ulysses G. McAlexander who served as the Commandant of Cadets at Oregon State, then known as Oregon Agricultural College from 1907 until 1911, and again from 1915 to 1916. Known as the "Rock of the Marne" McAlexander commanded the 38th Infantry Regiment during the second Battle of the Marne against the Germans in World War I. (National Guard photo by Maj.
