General James F. Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, speaks during the re-designation ceremony for Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121, Nov. 20 at the VMFA-121 hangar, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz. The Green Knights are the first operational F-35B squadron not only in the Marine Corps, but in the world. The F-35B Lightening II, also known as the Joint Strike Fighter, will revolutionize our expeditionary Marine air-ground combat power in all threat environments, reducing our reliance on supporting aircraft, tankers and jammers while enabling joint interoperability with newer systems. MCAS Yuma is scheduled to recieve four operational F-35 squadrons of 16 aircraft each and one operational test and evaluation squadron of eight aircraft.
