Japanese citizens pay respect to their fallen family members at “The Cornerstone of Peace” in Peace Memorial Park, Mabuni, Itoman City, Okinawa, June 23, 2023. Peace Memorial Park, built at the last location of the Japanese Military Headquarters and the site of the final fighting of the Battle of Okinawa, was constructed to pass down the tragedy of wartime and wish for world peace. “The Cornerstone of Peace” has the names of more than 240,000 American and Japanese service members as well as Okinawans who were killed during the battle.
