A U.S. Navy Mark V Diving Helmet rests on a table during the Connecticut General Assembly’s Committee on Veterans' and Military Affairs military resource fair, inside the Legislative Office Building, Hartford, Connecticut, May 30, 2023. The Mark V helmet was first introduced in 1916 and was designed to standardize Navy diving equipment. The helmet allowed Navy divers to operate at deeper depths than previously possible and remained in service until 1984, after which it was replaced by the Mark 12 Surface-Supported Diving System. This particular helmet was made by the Morse Diving Equipment Company. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Matthew Lucibello)
