GREAT LAKES, Ill. (June 28, 2023) – Electronic’s Technician 1st Class Elizabeth R. Tamayo, Surface Combat System Training Command Great Lakes Naval Military Training Instructor (NMTI) committee member, demonstrates the proper wear of the command NMTI ball cap to barracks staff Sailors. NMTI’s provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development to new-accession Sailors prior to fulfilling their first tour in the Fleet. The role that NMTIs play in forging the Navy’s future is no small task. Nearly one-third of all Sailors graduating from Recruit Training Command, around 5,000 young men and women, transfer annually to “A” School campuses on Naval Station Great Lakes for accession-level training. An NMTI is responsible for leading 250 to 400 of those Sailors daily. (U.S. Navy Photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Cory Asato)
