The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6) prepares to participate in a visit, board, search and seizure exercise in the Coral Sea, July 8, 2023. Conducting VBSS training ensures the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit maintains its maritime interdiction capabilities for any potential emergencies on the open sea. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
