A U.S. Marine with the maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit gives a course of action during a visit, board, search, and seizure exercise aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS New Orleans (LPD -18) in the Coral Sea, July 8, 2023. The VBSS exercise refined Marines’ skills in maritime interdiction operations by training to remove maritime threats. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
