Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady (FLOTUS), visited Egypt in June 2023.
During the visit, Dr. Biden met with women and youth and highlighted the collaboration between USAID, the government, and companies to integrate on-the-job training into classrooms.
Dr. Biden had the opportunity to tour the USAID-supported El Sewedy technical school where she engaged with brilliant students and learned about USAID’s partnership with the Government of Egypt and the private sector. This partnership aims to upgrade Egypt’s technical education system, ensuring that Egyptian youth have the necessary skills to drive and sustain economic development.
At the iconic pyramids of Giza, Dr. Biden heard from USAID/Egypt Mission Director Leslie Reed about USAID's efforts to protect the Sphinx from rising groundwater as well as USAID's substantial investments of over $100 million to preserve Egypt's treasured antiquities and protect a vital source of jobs and income for Egyptians.
