Tech. Sgt. Chance Scharer, 9th Logistics Readiness Squadron petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) NCO in charge of fuels, environmental and safety, inspects fuel July 12, 2023, at Beale Air Force Base, California.
After multiple setbacks in his career, he volunteered as a dignified transfer carry team member. Scharer would have the solemn honor of receiving and transporting the remains of fallen service members. It was a position that required utmost respect, compassion, and dignity. Scharer knew that this was his chance to make a difference, to honor those who had made the ultimate sacrifice. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Ramon A. Adelan)
