Volunteer service members stand at parade rest next to flag-draped transfer cases during the Nov. 30, 2012, U.S. Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command Arrival Ceremony, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in honor of fallen U.S. personnel whose identities remain unknown. An honor detail comprised of joint military members escorted the remains from a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III to JPAC’s Central Identification Laboratory for analyses. The remains receiving full military honors represent losses associated with World War II and the Vietnam War are from recent JPAC recovery missions in Kiribati, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Germany, Belgium, France, Canada and Vietnam. Once the transfer cases arrive at JPAC’s laboratory, the forensic process of identifying the individuals will begin. If and when identifications are established, the names will be announced following next-of-kin notification. (Department of Defense photo by U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Michael R. Holzworth)
