CAROLINA, Puerto Rico, August 2, 2020 - FEMA approves over $2.5 million for the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.These funds are for the design and installation of a combined heat and power generation system at the island's main air gateway. The new system will increase redundancy, reduce service interruption and allow the airport to operate for seven days at 90% capacity should a major failure occur in the public power grid. During this initial phase, engineering designs, electrical studies, and permitting will be carried out in compliance with environmental and safety requirements. Hazard mitigation aims to reduce the loss of life and property following a disaster through sustainable actions such as planning and zoning and other measures that support long-term solutions.FEMA/EduardoMartinez
