U.S. Marines with the Maritime Special Purpose Force, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (MEU(SOC)), conduct a fast-rope insertion from a UH-1Y Venom aboard the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5), Atlantic Ocean, July 19, 2023. Fast-roping is a tactical maneuver used to quickly insert troops into austere terrain in which a helicopter may not be able to land. The 26th MEU(SOC), embarked with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, is on a scheduled deployment and remains ready to act as the Nation’s Immediate Response Force within the Fifth and Sixth Fleet’s areas of responsibility.
